THING #7
I now have a lot of feeds in my account. How will I ever get them all read? I need a snowy day to catch up, but looks like we will have good weather over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Oh well, another day. I added three feeds from Bloglines, one from Google Blog and one from Syndic8.com. I thought Bloglines was the easiest to use. I found Library Journal, National Geographic News, a health feed, a newspaper, and a news feed. A very learning experience!

THING #6
RSS and newsreaders are great for people who have lots of time to read. I don't have the time to read all of the feeds that I added to my account. However, it was a learning experience in figuring out how to add the co-participants' feeds and the newspapers. I thought the Nebraska Library Commission was an easy one. I'm not sure how I would use this in work or at home. I don't have a personal computer at home and it makes it difficult to read all of this at work as there is always lots to do in the library and I feel I don't have time. Adding Nebraska Library Commission to my feeds means being more in touch and keeping up with more ideas. I did try Google Reader, but found I liked bloglines the best. I thought it was the easiest to work with.

THING #5: Instant Messaging
IM is great for instant interaction between parties. There is no waiting for a response as in e-mail, and of course there is no cost. However, this can only be accomplished when both parties are available. This could be used between family members or between library patrons and library staff. I think instant messaging between patrons and librariy staff would be great. You would have immediate response to reference questions unless the questions were such that they had to be researched. I don't have a personal computer in my home so would have to use a public computer. I'm not sure as to how many patrons do have home personal computers. We seem to have a lot of computer users here in our library. That would probably be the biggest drawback. Learning about IM has been a lot of fun.
